Slovenia and Croatia ~ May 2018

Slovenia is a surprise. It was part of the Austrian Empire for more than 500 years and shares its northern border (see map). It is no wonder that from all of Yugoslavia that was broken apart it is the only one using the Euro. It is only 24 sq. km. with a population of 2 million covered mostly by forests and underground with caves. Croatia is to the south and has been Italian and Hungarian. The Croatian border is 29 miles of Mediterranean and simply beautiful. A scenic and economical destination. The Relais & Chateaux hotels dot the countryside and are a marvelous combination of hotel and restaurants. My favorite island was Korculca just north of Dubrovnik.
